Body paragraph

What a relaxing rest day it has been, especially since Nedjo took on more of the chores. While Nedjo did the laundry, apparently having a wonderful chat with the proprietor who ran it on behalf of her daughter, I took in the free city museum. I love museums more than Nedjo so this worked out well. And it allowed us to reverse roles as at home I do the laundry and Nedjo does the shopping.

The museum, located in a palace on the Plaza Coso Viejo, featured some good information about the dolmens we would visit tomorrow and from that Neolithic starting point worked its way forward in time covering Roman, Visigoth and Islamic eras.  There was an impressive series of religious paintings covering the story of the birth of Christ. On the uppermost level, art by the famed Antequera born and raised painter, Cristóbal Toral, was featured. I was quite taken by his work, with luggage being a recurrent image in many of his painting.

After laundry we headed out for lunch, making a rather extended circumnavigation of much of the city before finding a delicious menú del día (set price mid-day meal) basically next door!

Then we headed up to the Alcazaba for a wonderful afternoon of exploring. There is restoration work being done, so not all areas of the grounds are accessible, but the towers and vistas were superb with lots of good photo opportunities. It was quite something to look back at where we had descended into the city yesterday. We spotted a couple of Canadian cyclists from the Lower Mainland (the BC flag and Richmond cycling club logo were our clues) so we had a lovely visit with them comparing our walking route with their much more expansive but brief cycling tour.

Dinner was a repeat visit to the excellent Bodega Triana for tapas since it had been so delicious the night before (and it seemed to be the only thing open). We feasted on two delightful, composed salads as well as the usual standby of patatas bravas. And since tomorrow would be a short day, I indulged in a second glass of wine.
